I have some 50 years’ experience in Civil & Structural Engineering Servicing and can honestly say, this field of service has never been boring and has always been exciting and whilst I am not getting any younger, I have managed to stay ahead, keeping myself updated with the building and Construction Industry and what it demands.
I consider myself to be an innovative engineer introducing and certifying many new products to Australia over those years.
Our company is recently involved Dincel Wall Panelling to BarChip fibre and in combination, the team Dincel/BarChip, are currently spending many thousand dollars in testing these panels at UTS laboratory in Botany Sydney, with the object of providing corrosion free components, particularly in basements, for carparks and other uses.
The end results will show how this testing simulates predicted measurements which have been produced with ATENA, CERVENKA, a software product that provides real time nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete structures.
Our company is the distributor of this software in Australia and the Pacific Region. But this is not the first, it is just one of many. I first became interested in Innovation in Engineering with the introduction of lightweight (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete), back in the late 1980's. It was known as "Siporex", starting with MBS (imported from Sweden), with myself certifying that product, which was later bought out by “Boral Ytong” and then ending up with CSR-HEBEL at Gosford. This product has grown in uses from my early days of suspended P/C floor slabs in residential Developments, to muliple users in floor and wall panels.
Next came Ultra-Floor, then Cupolex, then "Barchip". Barchip was earlier known as Elasto-Plastic Concrete, Then came Affordable housing with Lift-Link, the Dincel wall formwork from Sydney and now nationally, TripStop from WA and now Qpod from NZ.
It is just the beginning, when there are so many products needing to be introduced to Australia, that are not included in our codes, after research and testing are able to be certified as "Deemed to Comply" or "Performanced Based". So, if you want some excitement, come on board, you are guaranteed a “High-Speed Train ride.”
