As a leading independent law firm, with more than 150 partners and a string of legal awards under its belt, Hall & Wilcox’s purpose is to enable its clients, people and communities to thrive.
It is therefore no surprise that the design brief for their front of house stair at their Melbourne office reflects the firm’s culture of connection, collaboration and creating value for clients. The firm wanted a staircase that was both beautiful and functional.
As visitors enter the office foyer, they are greeted by a warm and inviting space, with the stair located at one end and defined by a glass balustrade. From the foyer, the stair descends three levels, revealing the design intent when viewed from above. The steel structure is clearly expressed, with a central divider aligned to the main stair for seamless flow and consistent shadowlines that highlight the solid timber thickness. Internal linings and perforated plasterboard soften the steel visually while also improving acoustics.
The outcome is a stair that balances structure, materiality, and purpose, aligning seamlessly with the identity of Hall & Wilcox.
We are proud of this one.
