As many of you already know, on Tuesday we had a fire rip through our workshop, started by our waste oil heater which has served us well for years running long days and nights, and has completely levelled it. Virtually nothing was salvageable, only a very few parts that seemed to be fortunate enough to have something insulating fall on or around them.
An entire lifetime of collecting parts, many incredibly rare, all destroyed in literally minutes, and the fire continued to rage on for hours, destroying several collector cars undercover outside as well.
The loss and devastation is immense, all our machines and the extensive supply of parts were reduced to ash.
At the lowest point, we saw a few people turn nasty, as if the loss wasn’t already enough we have had some extra pressure placed upon us by people whose engines and/or parts were in there, and while I can understand their fear, we will be working to replace everything our customers have lost in full.
However, also at this lowest point we have seen our greatest display of support and human kindness come through. We have been truly overwhelmed and humbled by the response from people from all walks of life, even people we’ve had very limited dealings with but have felt our pain and tried to heal it.
I’ll go on the record and say I’ve had some very manly cries over some of the acts I’ve seen, humbled and amazed are words that couldn’t even begin to express what I’ve felt.
We will rise again, this has been an extreme lesson and something we had not prepared for, but with so many people doing what they can, donating money, time, tools, much needed essential items (many of our appliances and clothes, personal possessions etc were in storage on the mezzanine as the tiny cottage we’ve moved into and are renovating couldn’t fit them), we have to keep going. We owe it to our supporters, our customers, and ourselves to not let this break us, and come back stronger and better, it will take time as we’re starting completely from scratch, but we have faith.
