Main Product Description
Up for sale is a beautifully preserved Stanley No. 54 Plow and Rabbet Plane. Manufactured during its brief production window between 1937 and 1950. Because the No. 54 had a much shorter production run than the ubiquitous No. 50, finding examples in this level of preservation is becoming increasingly difficult.

Key Features:

Type: Highly sought-after early variant (pre-war) featuring the lever-style cutter adjustment mechanism. This mechanism was inherited from the early Stanley No. 50 design. Collectors favor this setup over the later-era sliding thumb-screw bracket.
Nickel Plating: Exceptional. Retains 95%+ of its original nickel plating (although it is under a layer of dirt). Minor plating loss is mainly around the sharp outer edges and the high-friction area of the skate (normal for a tool of this age).

This vintage Record SS No.05 1/2 plane features the highly desirable "Stay-Set" two-piece cap iron system engineered by Record in England. The extra width (2-3/8" original Record tungsten steel cutter) and heavy body of the 05 1/2 make it one of the most versatile bench planes.

Machine-Scraped Sole: Bottom sole plate has been precision machine-scraped flat by previous owner. Flatness hasn't been checked in detail, but if you decide to go to the trouble of machine scraping, you probably know what you are doing and the plane is likely to be flatter than any sanded surface.

Original Handles: Handle retains original transfer logos.

Condition Note:
Excellent mechanical condition would make a very accomplished user. There is some loss of the original paint on the body.

This Edward Preston brass and boxwood shipwright’s 12" double bevel gauge is a superb example of early 20th‑century English craftsmanship. Designed for marking, transferring, and checking compound angles, these gauges were essential tools for shipwrights, patternmakers, and high‑end joiners working on curved or angled structures.

Edward Preston & Sons produced some of the finest brass‑fitted layout tools of the era, and this double bevel gauge demonstrates the company’s hallmark precision. The dual brass blades pivot smoothly from each end of the boxwood stock, allowing the user to set and lock two independent angles — a feature particularly valuable in boatbuilding and complex timber framing.

This example presents beautifully, with clean boxwood surfaces, crisp graduations, and well‑fitted brass components.
