Youโll hear terms like Moderate, High, Extreme and Catastrophic every fire season, but what do they actually mean?
Fire Danger Ratings (FDR) indicate how dangerous a bushfire would be if one started, based on conditions like temperature, wind, humidity and fuel load.
Hereโs how it breaks down:
๐ข Moderate - Fires can start, but are usually controllable.
๐ก High - Fires spread faster and require more effort to contain.
๐ Extreme - Fast-moving, intense fires that are difficult to control.
๐ด Catastrophic - Unpredictable, uncontrollable conditions where leaving early is the safest option.
Knowing the rating on any given day helps you make the right call, early, not when itโs too late.
