As you probably may have guessed by now, Iāve had Matthew & Kimberleyās HK GTS back in my workshop for the past week. I canāt believe itās been three years already since I completed it. Taking out first place in Concours Class at the 2024 Monaro Nationals, this beautiful example was back to get alterations done to it so it can raise the bar even higher.
So what else needed to be changed I hear you ask?
Well first of all, it lost a point for incorrect tyres. It had the Firestone D70 Wide Oval redline tyres fitted but this V8 Monaro is an early build and had 5ā rims as standard fitment. D70 tyres were only factory fitted to 6ā rims. The owner wanted them changed so I sourced these correct 6.95 x 14 GoodYear redlines. Look how skinny they are! But thatās what they had. Check out the correct fitment of the spare and the perfect fit of the spare wheel clamp. Holden certainly werenāt planning on using it for radial tyres.
As with all my imported tyres from the US, I repaint the redline the correct orange. I donāt like the pinkish red they come over with.
Amongst other changes to the car was the addition of an operational restored reproduction tar top battery. Also the removal of the overlocking on the front carpet edge and replacing it with vinyl. The addition of the two large washers on the top locking panel consistent with Pagewood built cars. The orientation of the washer pump outlet to east/west to be consistent with the early build date. I fitted some genuine replated stabiliser bar nuts and washers to replace the repro ones. Finally a new rear window decal. I didnāt have these at the time of the build and I stuck a United Motors decal on there although I donāt know which dealer it sold from originally when new. Itās born again now so it sports an HKTG Garage decal š
