OUR TURFCUTTER BLADE
Blades Australia Pty Ltd has manufactured turf cutter blades since 1994 during which time we have consistently improved our method of manufa
cturing together with the quality of steel that we use. Our bottom blade is manufactured from chrome-based spring steel with much less wear than the boron-based spring steel in the side plates. Recently we trialed spring steel that was case hardened with the result being encouraging but not consistent. The additional manufacturing cost made the Turfcutter not cost-competitive with the imported blade and the inconsistency in wear was also not acceptable. During these trials, however, we recognized a wear pattern that was consistent regardless of soil type or location. On the basis of the observation, we designed an insert for the side plate that was easily removed and replaced with a new insert effectively renewing the blade. We are confident that we can guarantee twice the life of each blade. The cost to you will be the same as our old design with additional inserts being $4.80 each. Most times only the right hand insert will need to be replaced but if you are harvesting buffalo grass you may need to replace both inserts. How do you replace the insert? The inserts are tack welded into position and need to be cut loose using a fine cut angle grinder replacing the worn insert with the new one and then tack welding the insert into place. This is much easier than sharpening and will renew the blade to as new. The quantity we will sell to each grower will be less than half we normally sell but we are gearing up to be able to supply every grower in Australia. Blades Australia Pty Ltd has contemplated a patent on this design but the initial cost and the cost of enforcement was beyond our budget so we are simply promoting this design as an Australian manufacturer, selling an Australian-made Turfcutter, to Australian turf growers. The new model will be advertised in the Turf Grower magazine in August 2013 and orders will be handled on a first in bases. We are confident that the insert will half your cost and we have moved our total production to manufacturing the new model. In the mean time current stocks are being offered bellow current costs
