share your stories with us! We are watersports enthusiasts!

Many of us have been sailing for the most of their lives. Therefore we know about the sea, boats and equipment as well as what it takes to perform watersports successfully. The interface between the sea and the boats/equipment - no matter what size and type - is to a great extent ropes and running rigging. No wonder that the most successful athletes from Olympic teams to high performance sailing c

lasses rely on Robline cordage that was developed and tested in collaboration with them. Feel free to join us and share your experiences, ideas and thoughts accompanied with photos and videos from your favorite water-adventures 🌊

1950 – 1970 // Split fiber yarns

In the mid-1960s, a new yarn manufacturing technology emerged:
Plastic films made of Polypropylene and Polyethylene were tensioned to boost strength.

💥 The result? The film split under stress, creating a rough surface — perfect for twisting into split fiber yarn.

This innovation allowed rope makers to replace coarse fibers like sisal, especially in products like baler twines and packing twines — which had been part of the Teufelberger range for many years.

A smart shift in fiber tech that shaped the future of utility ropes but nothing to use for sailing ropes.

1950 – 1970 // Polypropylene (PP)

Also in 1951, Polypropylene (PP) was developed — a fiber that’s light, floats on water, and found its place in rope making. 🌊

🧵 While PP offers buoyancy and low weight, it comes with trade-offs:
❌ Lower abrasion resistance
❌ Poor heat resistance
That’s why it’s mostly used for simple applications or covered with other materials.

📦 Back then: packaging yarns & clotheslines
🚀 Today: throwlines, and even plastic strapping — all part of Teufelberger’s portfolio.
