What happens when the ALPEN METAL HEAD goes head-to-head with a step drill? Our comparison test has the answer.

The test data at a glance:

Drill bit diameter: ø 6.0 mm
Test material: steel, C45, 1.1730
Material thickness: s = 10 mm
Through-hole drilling speed: n = 1100–1200 rpm
Feed force: F = 300 N (approx. 30 kg)
Test drill: Metabo SBEV 1300-2
Cooling: without cooling

Both drills were tested under identical conditions: in a 10 mm thick C45 steel plate (1.1730), with a constant feed force of 300 N and a speed of 1100–1200 rpm. For the comparison, the 6.0 mm step of the step drill was used.

Drilling time per hole, the number of holes until total wear and the average energy consumption across all holes achieved were measured.

The METAL HEAD clearly outperforms the step drill in speed, tool life and energy consumption, while also delivering higher hole quality: round holes, smoother surfaces and reduced burr formation. ⚙️💪

Beide Bohrer wurden unter identischen Bedingungen getestet: in einer 10 mm dicken Stahlplatte aus C45 Stahl (1.1730), bei konstanter Anpresskraft von 300 N und einer Drehzahl von 1.100–1.200 U/min. Für den Vergleich wurde beim Stufenbohrer die 6,0-mm-Stufe verwendet.

Gemessen wurden die Bohrzeit pro Bohrloch, die Anzahl der Bohrungen bis zum Totalverschleiß sowie der durchschnittliche Energieverbrauch über alle erreichten Bohrungen.

Der METAL HEAD ist bei Geschwindigkeit, Standzeit und Energieverbrauch klar überlegen und überzeugt gleichzeitig mit höherer Bohrlochqualität: kreisrunde Bohrlöcher, glattere Oberflächen und geringere Gratbildung. ⚙️💪

Auch unser Kollege Dierk Förster ist vor Ort "und für alle Schandtaten bereit", insbesondere: Bohren, was das Zeug hält. 🧰
