A few years ago I started experimenting with a dual spring concept for the Darwin.

The project eventually went on hold, not because it wasn’t promising, but because other developments and limited resources had to take priority.

Lately I’ve been revisiting some older concepts again and this one still feels surprisingly interesting. Especially because these concepts were always intended not only as potential future options for new Darwins, but also in a way that could allow existing Darwin owners to retrofit and experiment with them as well.

Alongside that, I’ve also been exploring alternative spring and leverage concepts for the existing Darwin platform.

Nothing final yet. Mostly curious:
Would there be genuine interest in seeing concepts like this explored further?

One thing that probably won’t stop around here is proper R&D, modularity and mechanical experimentation. I genuinely appreciate the support that allows these kinds of projects to exist in the first place.

An Approach in 14x6” recently made its way to the Isle of Skye and somehow feels oddly fitting.

This project never started with the intention of becoming a conventional product or a large scale series. It was simply an exploration around shell construction, resonance, materials and the overall interaction between drum, hardware and player.

Every drum is entirely made in-house here in Austria in very small numbers and with a rather unreasonable amount of effort going into construction, machining, finishing and assembly.

Seeing these drums ending up in inspiring places and in the hands of people who genuinely connect with the project is something I deeply appreciate.

A limited number is currently still available.

A closer look at another custom Darwin setup.

Black anodizing, longboards, direct drive and a custom laser engraved footboard design.

Direct drive is a very common choice on the Darwin and offers a precise, immediate feel while still allowing a wide range of setup options through the pedal’s modular platform.

As always, the engraving is laser processed directly into the anodized surface, exposing the raw aluminum underneath rather than adding material on top.

Built in small quantities.

Here’s a custom Darwin Double Pedal, finished in black anodizing and equipped with longboards, direct drive and a pair of Game Changer triggers.
The pedal also features a custom footboard engraving to complete the setup.

While I still personally gravitate towards strap drive for most applications, direct drive can offer a very immediate and connected feel when dialed in properly and matched to the player behind it.

As always, the engraving was laser processed directly into the anodized surface, revealing the raw aluminum underneath rather than adding material on top.

Here’s a custom Darwin double pedal in black & orange anodizing with engraved footboards, longboards and direct drive.

This one was built for .

I had the chance to lend Sebastian one of my pedals for some weeks to put it through its paces. After that, he reached out and asked if I could build one for him, which I genuinely appreciate.

He’s an incredibly well rounded and educated musician with a very broad spectrum, even though most people know him for his work in more extreme music. Having him spend time with the pedal and come back with that kind of feedback means a lot to me.

Everything I build follows the same approach, and I appreciate the trust behind every order. This one was a particularly nice one for me on a personal level.
