In this quick demo, I'm testing the HDM-100 microphone by from Austria (https://harmonikatechnik.at/mikro/), an external microphone solution for accordions. In my audio I have not applied any EQ, effects or compression. I've included an EQ graphic for those who might want to see it. This microphone (weighing 84 grams) features a discreet magnetic mount, making it easy to swap between different accordions for home recordings and live performances, with no permanent external fixtures. No technical skills are needed for installation - you only glue (or double sided tape) the provided magnet to the underside of the treble grill (and bass cover/grill, if you get the bass microphone) for mounting. The microphone cable is fed alongside/under your accordion's belts with the provided velcro straps. The microphone has an XLR connector and requires phantom power, though a battery pack can be provided for mixers that don't support phantom power. The vendor offers microphones that are compatible with either Shure or AKG wireless systems.
Although I've opted for only a treble mic, bass microphones are also available, which also use a magnet for mounting.
While my Fismen accordion's built-in mic (from the factory) is visually more discreet, it doesn’t capture the true acoustic tone of the accordion, so I’m excited to switch to the Harmonikatechnik microphone for a richer sound without additional costs for "installation" (because there's no real installation) on other accordions. Thank you to Mario Dietl from Harmonikatechnik in Austria for his help!
