The most important step in the HWK Chain Coating process: thoroughly degreasing the chain. ⚙️

Before the wax is applied, oil and dirt must be completely removed from the chain. To do this, place the chain in a container, cover it with degreaser and shake well. When the liquid turns black, it means exactly the residues that would later prevent the wax from bonding properly are coming off.

Repeat the process two to three times until hardly any dirt comes out.

Important 👉🏼 The chain must be completely free of grease, otherwise the wax will not adhere properly. The cassette and chainrings should also be grease-free.

Before your bike chain gets its little performance treatment, the HWK CHAIN COATING HOTWAX needs to melt first.💡

Heat the wax in the wax pot to 80–90 °C, usually around setting 1–2. Important: the wax should melt slowly, but not boil. If smoke appears, it is too hot.

So take it easy, let it melt gently, and then you’re ready for the next step towards a clean, efficient chain. ⚙️
