In this video you can see a sound comparison of the same bass rebec with two different types of strings.

In the first part, the instrument is strung with nylon strings and tuned to E–B–E.
In the second part, the same rebec is played with horsehair strings with the exact same tuning.

The goal of this experiment is to demonstrate how the string material alone affects the tone, texture, and overall character of the instrument.

Can you hear the difference? And which one do you prefer?

Cello scale, horsehair strings, tuned to G–d–a (same as the top 3 strings of a cello).

Carved maple body (made from two joined pieces for a deeper, richer bass sound).
Beech fingerboard allows fingers to press strings comfortably.

A sound of our Romanesque harp!⭐️

This harp has a single row of strings and 18 strings in total.

This time we installed experimental hand-twisted fluorocarbon strings. We like the result and the sound!

The body and the soundboard are carved from a single piece of maple.

The soundboard is made in an arched shape, which makes it most resistant to the tension of the strings. All these features give the harp a sound characteristic of medieval European music.
