In many projects, especially in Afghanistan, Structural Engineering professionals often intervene in geotechnical recommendations or even review them—despite this being outside their core expertise.

For safe and reliable outcomes, geotechnical work should be handled and reviewed by qualified geotechnical engineers not by structural engineers, with proper interdisciplinary coordination.

ASTM C 62

-Bricks are divided into 3 categories
-Grade A (SW), = Avg strength =20.7Mpa, Absorption = 17.0%
-Grade B (MW) = Avg strength = 17.2Mpa, Absorption = 225
-Grade C (NW) = Avg strength = 10.2Mpa, Absorption = No limit

ASTM C 67

Number of specimens:
-For strength and absorption determinations at least 10 individual bricks for lots of 1000,000 for larger lots 5 individual bricks for each 500,000 brick.
Capping:
-All specimens shall be dry and cool
-Fill recessed or paneled surfaces that will become the bearing surfaces
Compressive Strength:
-The test specimens shall by half, dry bricks, five specimens shall be tested
-Gross cross-sectional area perpendicular to bearing should not be less than 90.3cm2
-Test brick specimens flatwise
