Pakistan has taken a major step in space exploration as two of its air force pilots, Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud, have been selected by China for astronaut training and a future mission to the Tiangong space station.

The selection, announced by the China Manned Space Agency, marks the first time foreign astronauts have been chosen for China’s human spaceflight programme.

Both candidates will travel to China for rigorous training, and one of them will eventually fly as a payload specialist, becoming the first non-Chinese astronaut to visit the space station.

This development is being seen as a landmark moment for Pakistan, signaling its entry into human spaceflight and highlighting growing space cooperation between China and Pakistan.

The mission, expected around 2026, will involve scientific experiments in space and could open a new chapter for Pakistan’s space ambitions.

Kazakhstan and Pakistan are stepping up plans to use Pakistan’s major seaports — Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar — as new gateways for Kazakh exports and transit cargo, especially as traditional routes via Iran become less reliable amid the Middle East maritime disruptions. Discussions between both governments aim to finalise a transit trade agreement that would allow Kazakhstan, a landlocked Central Asian nation, to channel goods through these ports to global markets.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and economic ties, with both sides highlighting Pakistan’s strategic geographic position as a link between Central Asia, South Asia, and beyond. Joint ventures and logistics cooperation are expected to enhance cargo flows, container transit, and long‑term trade routes for Kazakh products via the Arabian Sea.
