Elite Agritech in partnership with , proudly unveiled the region’s first successful Agri-PV (Agriculture + Photovoltaic) project at Abu Dhabi Sustainability week 2026, combining solar energy generation with crop cultivation on the same land.
CEO Hassan Halawy, alongside Engineer Mahra Al Hoot, Technology Engineer at Masdar, led the project showcasing how renewable energy can power sustainable agriculture while addressing the unique challenges of farming in arid climates.
Key highlights of the project:
• Dual use of farmland: crops grow under solar panels, producing both food and energy simultaneously.
• Innovative shading systems reduce heat stress on plants and optimize water usage.
• Adoption of Agri-PV systems lowers operational costs and supports efficient water management.
• Evaporative cooling in greenhouses powered by solar energy ensures off-season protection and maintains infrastructure integrity.
• Addresses the food-energy nexus, providing a scalable and compatible solution for modern agriculture.
• Strategic engineering reduces CAPEX, making high-investment projects more feasible and sustainable.
This approach enables farmers to produce crops efficiently using renewable energy while mitigating risks associated with arid agriculture. The project successfully demonstrates how technology, sustainability, and local food production can intersect to create scalable, resilient models for the region.
