Important Notice for Everyone with a Solar System
When an inverter is operating in bypass or grid-priority mode, household loads are mainly supplied directly from the grid, even though solar panels are installed. In simple terms, the presence of sunlight does not automatically mean your home is being powered by solar at that moment, which helps explain why electricity consumption can remain high.
Most inverters will still charge the batteries while in this mode, meaning grid power is being used both to run the house and to maintain or charge the battery.
Some hybrid inverters can be configured to prioritise solar while grid power is available, but this depends on the inverter model and how it was set during installation. Many systems are left on default settings, which favour grid power for stability.
For systems without automatic priority control, manually isolating the AC grid input during the day can force the home to run on solar and batteries.
