Compaction isn’t simply about making the ground look flat.
The aim is to reduce the air voids within the soil or aggregate, increasing its density and creating a more stable base for whatever comes next.
That’s why the correct moisture, material, layer thickness and compaction method all matter.
It’s one of those stages that disappears underneath the finished project, but if it isn’t done properly, you’ll know about it later.
