Our oceans remain the invisible link connecting industries, economies, and communities across the world.
Today, more than 80% of global trade is transported by sea, making the maritime industry fundamental to resilient supply chains and the movement of essential goods across international markets.
At the same time, the ocean produces at least 50% of the world’s oxygen, absorbs nearly 30% of global CO₂ emissions, and supports billions of livelihoods worldwide.
This World Ocean Day reinforces the growing international focus on stronger ocean governance, marine conservation, and long-term sustainability.
For the maritime sector, protecting ocean health is not only an environmental responsibility, but a strategic priority for the future resilience of global trade, port operations, and shipping networks.
Protecting the ocean means protecting the waters that connect us all.

Ships that connect continents…
Every vessel on the horizon is part of the global network that keeps trade, industry and people connected.
As one of Africa’s busiest maritime gateways, roughly handling 60% of South Africa’s container traffic, Durban never truly stands still, and neither do the teams supporting the ships that call here.
Proud to support the vessels that keep Durban and global trade moving.

Global shipping never stops.
The maritime industry operates continuously to keep global supply chains moving.
With more than 80% of world trade transported by sea; vessels, crews and supporting services must function around the clock to maintain the flow of goods between markets.
This constant movement is driven by a global network of trade routes connecting producers, manufacturers and consumers across continents.
Container ships, bulk carriers and tankers transport everything from raw materials and energy to finished products, ensuring industries remain supplied and economies remain connected.
Operating across time zones and oceans, maritime trade runs day and night. Linking markets, sustaining global commerce and enabling the steady movement of goods that modern economies depend on.

The future of trade depends on how well we protect the world that carries it.
Earth Day 2026, under the global call Our Power, Our Planet, highlights that lasting progress is driven by collective action. Across industries, communities and individuals, a sustainable future depends on practical change and shared accountability.
For the maritime sector, that responsibility is significant.
The ocean is more than a route for trade - it connects markets, people and supply chains while supporting planetary health. Protecting it supports both commerce and future generations.
The International Maritime Organization - IMO's 2026-2027 focus reflects the shift away from commitment alone toward measurable action across the industry.
Across vessels, ports and supply chains, everyday decisions help shape a more sustainable future.
One planet connects our industry, our ocean, and makes our shared future our responsibility.

Communities are built by people who look after one another.
Retsa Tsela, meaning “making a way”, is a youth-led initiative from Potchefstroom working to restore neglected community spaces and public areas, inspiring people to take pride in where they live and care for those around them.
We were grateful for the opportunity to partner with SAFasteners and Freightmore Transport to provide equipment and personal protective gear to support the work Retsa Tsela is doing.
It was encouraging to see the team’s dedication and the positive impact they’re making. We’re wishing them continued success.
Proud to support those who are helping build stronger communities.
