LACP vs PAgP: Which one should you use? 🤔

When configuring EtherChannel, choosing the wrong protocol can create compatibility and performance issues that impact the entire network.

Here is the difference between LACP and PAgP:

🔹 LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol)

-IEEE standard (802.3ad / 802.1AX)

-Works across multi-vendor environments

-More flexible and widely adopted

-Ideal for scalability and interoperability

🔹 PAgP (Port Aggregation Protocol)

-Cisco proprietary

-Works only between Cisco devices

How DNS actually works behind the scenes? 🤔

Every time you access a website, you rely on a system that most people never see, but everything depends on it.

That system is Domain Name System (DNS).

Without DNS, applications cannot translate domain names into IP addresses, meaning no website, API, or service can be reached using a human-readable

name.

When DNS fails, everything breaks even if the infrastructure is healthy.

DNS resolution follows a hierarchical lookup process:

🔻The client first checks local cache

🔻If not found, a recursive resolver handles the query

🔻The resolver queries root servers → TLD servers → authoritative DNS servers

🔻The authoritative server returns the IP address

🔻The result is cached for future requests

🔹DHCP Starvation Attacks → exhaust the IP pool

Once DHCP is compromised, the impact is critical:

🔸Users get redirected to fake gateways → Man-in-the-Middle (MITM)

🔸DNS poisoning → traffic hijacking & data interception

🔸No available IPs → legitimate devices denied access

Securing DHCP is non-negotiable:

DHCP Snooping → blocks unauthorized DHCP servers

🔹Port Security → limits MAC-based attacks

🔹IP Source Guard → prevents IP spoofing

🔹Dynamic ARP Inspection (DAI) → validates ARP packets
