Flying Apple Space Technologies Newton's apple fell. Our apple flies. Near space research is an emerging field and is exciting because it is accessible.

Flying Apple Space Technologies (FAST) is a small group of amateur radio operators, scientists, space enthusiasts, Las Vegas high school students and University of Nevada, Las Vegas students and faculty. We are dedicated to launching high altitude weather balloons into near-space or the "space shore"--the region surrounding the Earth where the upper atmosphere transitions into space. We support a

program for undergraduates and high school students to build, launch and find research payloads on near space weather balloons. Since it is relatively easy to get to and provides an environment which is close to that of outer space, it is in this playground that students can be exposed to a rich variety of important physics and engineering problems. With the infrastructure and support of the Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club, The Las Vegas Repeater Association, The Department of Physics and Astronomy, and generous donations from our supporters, we can give students a great opportunity to learn in an informal environment, outside of the classroom. We have launched five balloons so far:
FAST-1: RALPH (Rapidly Ascending Launched Probe Hello)
FAST-2: DAVE (Darn Accurate Video-taking Enterprise)
FAST-3: TED (Testing Equipment and Doodads)
FAST-4: No nickname
FAST-5: No nickname

Upcoming launches in 2012:
December 8
