Curing is one of the most important and often overlooked steps in concrete construction.

Without proper curing, concrete may never reach its intended strength or durability. This is just as true for fibre reinforced concrete as it is for conventional reinforced concrete.

Explore how curing works, why moisture retention is critical and which practical curing methods can help ensure better outcomes on site 👉 https://dripl.ink/eFkPm

📢 Invitation to a Virtual Lecture by Dr. Nick Barton

Join us on March 9 at 5:00 PM (Lima time) for a live Zoom lecture with Dr. Nick Barton, one of the world’s leading experts in rock mechanics.

In this session, Dr. Barton will present an overview of 50 years of the Q-System and its application in tunnel and cavern support. The lecture will explore concepts such as S(fr) and the relationship between the Q parameter and key project variables including excavation speed, deformation, cost, and time.

The presentation will also cover derived methods such as QTBM and Qslope, along with a systematic approach to applying Q parameters in tunnels and caverns constructed using drill-and-blast methods. This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from the developer of the Q-System and gain insights from decades of global tunnelling experience.

Welcome to 2026! We’re kicking off the year with the Gold Coast Light Rail, a major infrastructure project currently under construction. The project consists of eight new stations and 6.7 km of new rail line delivered through constrained urban environments.

BarChip macro synthetic fibre is being used in the track slab in place of traditional steel reinforcement, delivering several benefits to the project:

✅ Removes the risk of corrosion in the coastal environment.
✅ Saves time by removing steel installation processes.
✅ Simplifies construction by removing steel installation in confined spaces.
✅ Reduces carbon footprint of reinforcement.

The Gold Coast Light Rail is another strong example of fibre reinforced concrete in major civil infrastructure. You can learn more about fibre reinforced track slab construction here: https://barchip.com/fiber-reinforced-concrete-track-slab/.

Let’s set the record straight — micro synthetic fibres in concrete are NOT a substitute for steel reinforcement. Yet somehow, “micro fibres = rebar” keeps popping up in different pockets of the market. They’re not interchangeable, not even in the same category.

Micro fibres are brilliant at what they are designed to do: control early-age plastic shrinkage cracking and provide passive fire protection. But structural reinforcement? Load bearing capacity? Not even close.

If you want clear guidance on the difference between micro and macro synthetic fibres in concrete, read our article here:

Morningstar Storage Facility – Carbon Reduction with Fibre Reinforced Concrete. MQ58 helped deliver a faster, cheaper and more sustainable monolithic slab for the new Morningstar Storage Facility in North Carolina.

By replacing the original # 5 rebar design, BarChip fibre eliminated 37,000 lbs of steel, reduced the reinforcement carbon footprint by 75%, and shortened construction time for the contractor. A clean finish, no steel placement and a major reduction in embodied carbon — a great outcome for both the owner and the contractor.

Concrete upgrade complete at Pageland Dragstrip in South Carolina!

The venue has rebuilt its burnout box through to the timing boards with an 800-yard, 6-inch BarChip MQ58 fibre reinforced concrete slab. The mix placed cleanly, finished smoothly and required no conventional steel reinforcement. https://barchip.com/pageland-dragstrip-fiber-reinforced-external-pavement/.

Precast concrete has evolved — and steel is no longer the only option.

Across the industry, manufacturers are turning to BarChip macro synthetic fibre to streamline production and boost profitability. No steel mesh to cut or install, no delays in setup — just a faster, easier and more efficient manufacturing process.

BarChip eliminates corrosion, reduces handling and storage costs and simplifies every stage of production. It’s the smarter way to make precast concrete. Discover how leading producers are changing the way they manufacture precast concrete:
