The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria-Lagos Chapter APWEN is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), focussing only on professional female engineers (Mrs.) J. O.

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria APWEN was formed by a handful of women engineers led by Engr. Maduka in 1982, and was formally inaugurated in 1983. It was originally meant to be a pressure group since most men hiring engineers then would rather have women in the kitchen and not on construction sites nor behind the desk carrying out engineering designs.APWENLagos is the L

agos State Chapter of the association. APWEN is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), focussing only on professional female engineers in all disciplines of engineering. It is also a member of the National Council of Women Societies.

APWEN Lagos Career Talk at Mulero Junior High School ✨

APWEN Lagos Chapter continued its impactful Career Day outreach at Mulero Junior High School with students from State Junior High School participating in the enlightening session.

The students were inspired by Engr. Uchechi Edosomwan, FNSE, who introduced them to the importance of self-development through SWOT Analysis — identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as a guide towards choosing the right career path.

The session emphasized resilience, solution-oriented thinking, mentorship, skill acquisition, and developing a possibility mindset for future success. Students were also encouraged to maximize technology for learning, volunteer in clubs, and acquire vocational and digital skills such as Coding and AutoCAD.

The highly interactive session ended with the presentation of MathSets, socks, ICT textbooks, and educational support materials to the participating schools and students.

APWEN Lagos remains committed to nurturing young minds and empowering future female leaders in STEM and Engineering.

APWEN Lagos Career Talk at Government Senior High School, Agege ✨

In commemoration of the International Girls in ICT Day and Lagos State Career Day activities, APWEN Lagos hosted an impactful STEM Career Talk at Government Senior High School with students from Girls Junior High School, Government Junior High School and Government Comprehensive High School in attendance.

The enlightening session was anchored by Engr. Adeola A. Adeleke, MNSE, who educated the students on the difference between a job and a career while emphasizing the importance of preparation, passion, and purpose in career selection.

Students were encouraged to see opportunities as preparation meeting luck, develop their skills, identify mentors, and confidently pursue careers in STEM and Engineering despite societal stereotypes.

The interactive session featured engaging questions from the students on career choices, passion alignment, funding challenges, and opportunities for girls in engineering.

APWEN Lagos also donated ICT textbooks, MathSets, pairs of socks, and educational support materials to all participating schools in District 1 as part of its commitment to empowering the girl child through education and technology.

APWEN Lagos Career Talk at Girls Senior High School, Agege ✨

As part of the Lagos State Career Day programme, APWEN Lagos Chapter under the leadership of Engr. Bosede M. Oyekunle, FNSE, visited Girls Senior High School to inspire young girls towards purposeful career development and excellence in STEM.

The session was led by our amiable speaker, Engr. Uchechi Edosomwan, FNSE, who spoke extensively on the theme “Exploring Pathways, Building Futures.” She encouraged the students to discover purpose, manage their time wisely, and build a future driven by vision and determination.

The students were exposed to how engineering impacts everyday life - from school desks to textbooks, footwear, pens, and other daily essentials - showing them that engineering remains the melting point of STEM and a powerful tool for improving lives.

Students were also encouraged to develop resilience, embrace learning opportunities, seek mentorship, and pursue engineering and technology careers confidently.

To further support learning, APWEN Lagos donated ICT textbooks, MathSets, pairs of socks, and access to a Basic Python Programming instructional package.
