Emerging research continues to strengthen the connection between periodontal inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology explored how dysbiosis-mediated inflammation may create a bidirectional relationship between RA and periodontitis — with each condition potentially exacerbating the other. Researchers also found that periodontal therapy improved inflammatory markers and RA disease activity.

As evidence surrounding the oral-systemic connection grows, addressing periodontal disease with effective treatment protocols may play an important role in supporting both oral and overall health.
