Anyone can clean a truck for a sale. These three things are essential to check before you make a deal.

Before you commit to a used medium-duty truck, check the oil cap for sludge or milky residue, look for gaps in the service records, and pull the fault codes. A clean exterior and a fresh detail job tell you nothing about what the engine has been through. The paperwork and the codes do.

Save this post before your next used truck purchase. Share it with anyone in your fleet who's shopping.

That ABS light isn't always simply a brake problem.

HK Truck Center shop foreman Tracey breaks down one of the most overlooked causes of an ABS warning light on a medium-duty truck; a rotted tone ring. The tone ring is the toothed component on the rotor that the ABS sensor reads to track wheel speed. When those teeth rot away, the sensor can't do its job, and the light comes on.

On this truck, you can see the difference between the rotted unit and the new one in this video, the teeth need to be clean and intact for the sensor to read accurately. Once they're gone, no amount of sensor replacement will fix it. If your ABS light is on, the sensor isn't always the culprit. Get the whole system looked at.

A 2016 Hino 268 running on its original engine drove 680,000 miles.

Fleet operators running Hino trucks consistently report 400,000 to 600,000 miles before major overhaul. One logistics company in Africa documented a Hino 500-Series freight truck running past 2.3 million kilometres (over 1.4 million miles) on its original engine bottom end, original gearbox, and original rear axle, the equivalent of circling the earth nearly 60 times.

Most buyers think about purchase price. The fleets that have been running Hino for decades think about cost per mile. At 600,000 miles, a $100,000 truck has cost $0.17 per mile in acquisition cost.

Most truck noises can wait. These three can't.

Grinding under braking, hissing on startup, and a knock that speeds up with RPM; each one is your truck telling you something is wrong right now, not eventually. Swipe through to see what each sound actually means and why none of them are a "let's see how it goes" situation.

Save this and share it with your drivers. The five seconds it takes to recognize one of these sounds is a lot cheaper than the repair that follows ignoring it.

The government will help pay for your next medium-duty truck. Most fleet managers aren't taking full advantage.

Section 179 lets business owners deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment in the year it's placed in service, not depreciated over five years. For 2025, the deduction limit doubled to $2,500,000 following the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed July 4, 2026. 100% bonus depreciation was also restored.

For Hino trucks, the L6 and L7 both exceed the GVWR threshold that qualifies them for the full deduction, not the lower cap that applies to lighter passenger-type vehicles.

The catch: the truck has to be purchased and placed into service before December 31, 2025. Not ordered. Actually in service.

Talk to your accountant about how Section 179 applies to your specific situation. Then call us, we have qualifying trucks ready for delivery.

5 habits that are shortening your engine's life. Most drivers do at least two of them without realizing it.

Excessive idling, skipping warm-up in cold weather, running overloaded, delayed oil changes, and ignoring small leaks don't cause a breakdown today. They cause one eventually, and by the time it shows up, the damage has been building for a while.

Save this post and share it with your drivers. Small daily habits are the difference between a truck that runs reliably for years and one that's constantly back in the shop.
