Craftsmanship doesn't happen by accident.

It takes skill, experience, attention to detail, and pride in the work.

This Labor Day, we're especially thankful for the people behind every Timbercraft project. From design and engineering to fabrication, fitting, sanding and finishing, there are talented hands behind every frame that leaves our shop.

We're proud of the work they do, and even more proud of the standard they hold themselves to every day:

If we wouldn't put it in our own home, it doesn't go in yours.

To our Timbercraft team—and to everyone who takes pride in building things that last—Happy Labor Day.

A home should fit the life you built for it.

For many of our clients, a timber frame home is something they've imagined for years—a place with room for family, views worth slowing down for, and spaces that feel just as good on an ordinary Tuesday as they do when everyone comes to visit.

This mountain home is a great example of what happens when the timber frame becomes part of the architecture rather than simply an accent. From the great room and kitchen to the quieter spaces throughout the home, the timbers bring everything together.

Designed around the view.
Crafted around the people who live there.

Small project. Same process.

Not every timber frame needs to be a great room or an entire home.

This lakeside pavilion started with a simple idea: create a space that combines storage, a covered bar, and easy access to the lake and dock—all within a relatively small footprint.

From design and engineering to fabrication and pre-fitting in our Michigan shop, the same attention to detail goes into making a project like this come together.

And that's one of our favorite parts of custom timber framing—taking an idea that's specific to how someone wants to use their property and turning it into something built specifically for them.

The frame becomes part of the home.

A timber frame isn't simply something you add to a room. When it's designed as part of the architecture from the beginning, it helps define the spaces where everyday life happens.

This great room is a good example. The timbers frame the living space, connect the open floor plan, and bring warmth and character to the entire home.

That's what we love about a well-designed timber frame. Years after the raising is finished and the construction crews are gone, the craftsmanship simply becomes part of the home.

Timbers move. Good joinery anticipates it.

Heavy timber continues to dry after a home is built. As moisture leaves the wood, timbers naturally shrink and can twist over time.

That’s one reason Timbercraft puts so much emphasis on fully housed joinery.

By fitting one timber into a housing cut into the adjoining member, the connection helps resist movement while also helping conceal the effects of shrinkage. It takes more time and craftsmanship—but we’re not just thinking about how your timber frame looks on raising day.

We’re thinking about how it will look years from now.

Designed. Pre-fit. Crafted in our Tecumseh, Michigan shop.

Some homes are designed around square footage. Others are designed around moments.

The morning coffee. Family gathered around the fireplace. A quiet evening beneath timbers that were designed, crafted, and fitted specifically for your home.

A timber frame isn't just something you see. It becomes part of how the home feels—and part of the memories made there.

That's what we mean when we say Built for Life.

The details aren't decorative. They're the connection.

Every Timbercraft frame is built around joinery that's meant to do more than look good.

From fabrication and finishing to pre-fit in our Tecumseh shop, each timber moves through a process designed to make sure the pieces come together the way they're supposed to—before they ever reach your building site.

It's craftsmanship you can see, backed by details you'll appreciate for years.

Traditional joinery. Modern precision.

There's a lot that happens to a timber before it becomes part of someone's home.

At Timbercraft, traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery starts with modern precision. Our timbers are carefully fabricated in our Tecumseh, Michigan shop before moving through finishing and pre-fit—where every connection is checked before the frame ever heads to the jobsite.

It's a process we've refined to make something complicated look surprisingly simple.

You spent years finding the perfect piece of land. Build a structure that honors it.

There is nothing quite like standing inside a fresh Timbercraft frame on the water as the sun comes up. Because our heavy timber bents carry the structural load of the roof, these lakeside walls remain completely open for continuous, soaring glass views.

Proud to partner with the talented team at Fireside Home Construction out of Dexter, MI on this incredible lakeside project. When local master builders and our Michigan timber studio collaborate, the result is a generational monument built to last centuries.
