Woodland's Tool of the Week!

Today's tool is protective equipment used by a local aircraft manufacturer. These tools cover the aluminum leading edges of widebody jets during manufacturing operations. They protect them from bumps, scratches, etc. They are made of Kydex thermoplastic and have sewn, vinyl covered foam pads on the inside to protect the wing. They are color coded to aid in efficient installation on the wings.

The checks are NOT from Woodland Trade and this has been reported to the Federal Trade Commission, US Postal Service Inspector General and the Washington State Attorney General.

Woodland's Tool of the Week!

Drill Jigs are a common tool used in aircraft manufacturing. This pair of tools represent a prime example of what we routinely manufacture for our customers. Note the CNC machined text and color coding which help assure the proper drills are being used which help eliminate manufacturing errors.

Woodland's Tool of the Week!

This weeks tool is a bond jig. In this case, its is used to bond honeycomb core details together. Its aluminum, fully plumbed for vacuum and has removable fences. The bonded core details from this jig go into a composite panel used on a jet engine nacelle. This tool was designed and build by Woodland for a local aerospace customer.

This weeks tool is a steel layup mold for composites fabrication. This tool features an integrated vacuum system, scribe lines showing the edge of part for layup and trim operations. With proper care, metallic tools will last the life of any program.

Woodland's Tool of the Week!

This week's tool of the week is an aluminum roto-mold. This tool is used to form thermoplastic powder into complex shapes for use in the air conditioning systems in commercial aircraft. It was machined out of billet aluminum on our 5 axis CNC mills and is a beautiful example of what can happen when a tooling concept is expertly designed and fabricated.

Did you know that Woodland designs and manufactures weld jigs?

Here is an example of a tool we fabricated a few years back for a local aerospace manufacturer. Weld jigs typically require precision machining and assembly to assure the weldments they produce meet the final dimensional tolerances called out by the engineering.

Today's tool features a Bonding Carousel that was designed and built by Woodland. It features a cost effective blend of COTS components with custom designed and fabricated hardware. Photo's don't show that the tool was nearly 6' long and over 4' tall.
