Unfortunately over the past week we have had 3 known ice rescues on Green Bay. The latest one sounds like the end result could have been much worse that it was. Let’s face it ice anglers the ice right now isn’t in great condition and is proving to be very dangerous. If you have to fish, check conditions first and KNOW the ice is good before going out on it. Try the shallower bays for some perch or northern action till the Bay gets better ice. Green Bay has a lot of open water, and boat traffic continues for a while opening up chances of ice drifting away. Please let’s all use are heads here before something terrible happens We have colder conditions coming in the near future so take your time and be safe!!

In regard to the recent 29 person ice rescue over the weekend, the Sturgeon Bay Sport Fishing Association says that your guide has the responsibility to keep you safe above all other things. None of the SBSFA's ice guides have ever been rescued from the ice and they are always committed to doing their trips in the utmost safety. They work together to keep things safe on the ice. You can find a full listing of ice guides at fishsturgeonbay.com .

Opening weekend is in the books, a little wind, a little cold but still a great weekend. The guides of SBSFA were out putting customers on smallmouth and walleyes. Meanwhile the charter captains are busy getting their boats ready and in the water. Already several are at their dock eagerly waiting to get out on the Big Lake. So, it's time to book those summer fishing trips with the captains and guides of SBSFA. How about a double trip with a day of salmon and trout action and then a day of walleye or bass on the Bay. Can't do that anywhere but here in Sturgeon Bay. Check out fishsturgeonbay.com -- the one stop for the best fishing excitement.

As our weather turns more towards spring, the guides and charter captains of the STURGEON BAY SPORT FISHING ASSOCIATION are getting their boats and equipment ready and booking for the upcoming season. If you have that certain date in mind to get out on the big Lake or you are hoping to get out after some bass or walleye now is the time to book your trip. Check with the Sturgeon Bay Sport Fishing Association's web site at fishsturgeonbay.com and choose your captain or guide and give them a call. All of the information you need is on the web site with 14 to choose from. Another suggestion is if you are making the trip to Sturgeon Bay let us suggest to give the Lake Michigan fish one day and try the Bayside for Bass, Walleye, or northern Pike a try on the next day. That will double your fishing experience in Sturgeon Bay. Check out that web site -- fishsturgeonbay.com

The 5th Annual Wounded Hero's fishing event was held at the Lodge at Leathem Smith August 15th -17th. Sturgeon Bay Sport Fishing Association members provided fishing charters over the 2 days of fishing. The members who participated were Captains Don Oberg, Nick Nault, Mark Courts, Jeff Weatherwax, Sid Ernest, Paul Melene and Gary Nault. Over the 2 days of fishing the guests caught salmon, rainbows, walleyes, and smallmouth bass. As always, everyone enjoyed the time on the water, the stories, the great meals, and awards ceremony. Special thanks has to go out to Paul and Holly Melene from the Lodge at Leathem Smith for organizing this event each year. The "Lodge" is one of the SBSFA's associate members. Thanks to everyone who made this year's event a great success!
