Cherry Tree Lane in Harvest Acres subdivision in Olivette, Missouri has a long illustrious history of flooding and property damage due to a substandard and inadequate storm water collection system and sewer infrastructure originally constructed in the early 1950s. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) have been aware of the problems, have commissioned engineering impact studies and have develope
d plans and budgets to resolve the situation - yet, nothing has been done. In the last 7 years, more than half of the original homes on Cherry Tree Lane have been replaced by new construction houses. The basic storm water infrastructure and sewer system have not been maintained, upgraded, repaired, replaced or expanded to support all of the new construction on the street. The runoff water & sewage overflow situation is creating extensive health hazards, property damage and access problems for emergency response vehicles, not only on Cherry Tree Lane, but also on adjacent Harvest Lane, the Greenbelt Trailway (bike/walking path) and Bonhomme Woods subdivision (directly below Harvest Acres). This is a community problem that needs immediate attention. We have documentation dating back to 2006 of site visits to Cherry Tree Lane conducted by engineers who found overwhelming evidence of:
- first floor home flooding
- street erosion & flooding
- yard erosion & flooding
- driveway erosion & flooding
- storm pipes are choked with roots & sediment
- poor condition of existing shallow piped system prevents MSD Maintenance from using mechanical equipment to unblock them
- hydrostatic pressure in the blocked storm lines cause geysers in yard drains
- standing water after rain and snow melt
