Originally designed as a wood structure, this project was converted to a cold-formed steel system at the recommendation of Kenco Drywall, in collaboration with Big-D Construction and The Lagoon Park.

The Victorian-inspired Candy Shop features open-web floor and roof trusses mounted to a structural post-and-beam and CMU system. The floor trusses were dynamically designed to allow for mechanical penetrations and coordination with other trades.

The roof trusses—engineered with strict depth constraints—support substantial rooftop units and incorporate unique architectural details at the south end of the building. A mansard/jack truss system was also implemented to achieve the building’s distinct, themed aesthetic.

This project highlights the versatility of cold-formed steel and the impact of coordinated design in delivering both structural performance and architectural intent.

We are all used to seeing cold-formed Steel (CFS) commercial projects in the news and as we drive around new construction areas. What we have not seen a lot of is the use of CFS in residential projects--until now. Eco Dwelling in Rifle, CO. is using a MiTek favorite technique, off-site manufacturing with CFS, to cut affordable housing prices in half and benefit the environment in the process.

A Colorado residential developer is redefining affordable housing by using prefabricated cold-formed steel (CFS) framing to develop two new subdivisions. Result? Homes are being built at half the cost of comparable single-family dwellings in the area.

Thank you BuildSteel for highlighting MiTek Ultra-Span Trusses in your article! The Great Wolf Lodge in Scottsdale opened in 2019 and was the first indoor waterpark constructed in Arizona. MKB Construction, Inc., installed the Ultra-Span roof trusses in record time while obtaining a perfect safety record. The MiTek Ultra-Span Cold-Formed Steel Truss packages are an excellent solution for a large project like this as they come pre-assembled on trucks, ready to lift into place and provide a non-combustible structural roof solution that is light weight and easily installed. This allows construction schedules to be accelerated and reduces the overall time spent on-site!

SFIA member MiTek® Steel Framing recently completed two multi-million dollar projects in Arizona and Alabama, installing cold-formed steel (CFS) roof trusses in record time, while obtaining a perfect safety record.

The Great Wolf Lodge is coming to Perryville, MD! Great Wolf Lodge is North America’s largest family of indoor water park resorts, and the project in Perryville is the 20th and largest resort to date. The resort features 500-family-friendly suites and a 126,000-square-foot indoor water park. Our MiTek Ultra-Span Trusses were fabricated and supplied by All-Span Inc. in Bridgeville DE, and installed by PDM Constructors & Durapods. The trusses were rafted on the ground into roof sub-assemblies and flown into place as a larger unit which included the metal decking.
