A month ago, I pitched YesWelder on an idea: instead of another expert review, what happens when a complete beginner puts one of their TIG welders to the test?

Rather than spending hours welding practice coupons, I designed and built a compact TIG welding cart for my garage. Along the way I learned a lot about fit-up, joint preparation, torch control, and just how much practice TIG welding really takes.

The cart isn't completely finished yet, but after a month of designing, welding, filming, editing, and rebuilding parts of this project, I wanted to share the experience honestly and show what a beginner can accomplish with enough patience and a willingness to learn.

In this episode of Probably Unsafe, things took a turn. I got sick. Again.
But even while dealing with the nightmare illness that life threw at me this time, I still refused to let the GL1100 EFI go-kart project stall out completely.

So between fevers, naps, antibiotics, and enough oxy to kill an elephant, I snuck in a few 5-minute bursts of work:
– staging parts
– prepping wiring
– getting the EFI components laid out
– planning the next steps for the conversion

It’s not a major build update, but sometimes the “progress” is just staying committed when you feel like garbage.

More go-kart danger coming soon.

WOW… I am SO impressed with my first order from SendCutSend

Since you all already know the chaos that is this Goldwing kart build, I’ll skip the long explanation. I needed a custom 36-1 crank trigger wheel and a single tooth cam trigger, designed them in Fusion, 3D printed test pieces, confirmed fitment, then sent the files out.

The quote said about a week at the cheapest rate, which I was totally fine with because… well… this project is already dumb enough without rushing it. $34.61 for two parts in 1/4” mild steel, no finishing, shipped to my door? That is stupid cheap.

Ordered March 14th at 6:30pm, delivered March 17th at 4pm. That is INSANELY fast. Yeah, I’m in the SF Bay Area and they’re in Nevada, so shipping helps, but still that turnaround is absolutely wild for the price.

Only small issue is the 36-1 wheel has a few burrs and slightly rough edges but I selected no finishing, so that’s on me. I’ll hit it with a file and clean it up on the wire wheel, no big deal. The teeth are small so I get why it’s not perfect out of the box, and honestly if it WAS perfect at this price I’d be shocked.

Parts showed up nicely packed, shrink wrapped to branded cardboard, AND they threw in candy AND a “CUT METAL” sticker that immediately went on the laptop.

There is NO way I’m walking into a local machine shop with this ridiculous project and getting this kind of experience. No attitude, no “where’s your spec sheet,” no delays, no nonsense just upload your file and boom, parts at your door.

At one point I seriously considered building a cheap CNC plasma table, but between space, setup, calibration, and how rarely I’d actually use it… yeah, no. This makes way more sense for one-off stuff like this.

10/10, easily. Lifetime customer. I’ll be shouting them out in the next YouTube video (not sponsored, paid for all of it myself), just genuinely blown away by how smooth this was.

In this episode of Probably Unsafe, we attempt something I honestly didn’t believe would work…

With guidance from Ascan of BAU-3D, we used RealityScan and nothing more than a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G to create a full 3D model of a Honda GL1100 Goldwing engine.

No laser scanner.
No metrology lab.
Just photos, patience, and some serious expertise.

The result?
A model accurate to under 1 mm that we can bring directly into CAD for mounting, packaging, and design work on the go-kart project.

This is a huge step toward building the frame and making sure everything actually fits before metal gets cut.

Project start: Honda Goldwing → go-kart.

I pick up the donor bike, haul it home, and begin the teardown. By the end of the episode the machine is stripped to the essentials and I wire a basic test harness to run the ignition and verify the charging system.

After diagnosing and fixing a spark problem, the engine comes to life and settles into a healthy run.

A huge first milestone for what is going to be a very questionable vehicle.

It begins.

I dragged home a Honda Goldwing in a U-Haul with one goal: turn this 100HP touring bike into a go-kart that probably should not exist.

In this episode:
– unload the bike
– get it into the garage
– strip it down to the frame, engine, and driveline
– build a temporary wiring setup for ignition & charging
– chase down a no-spark issue
– and finally get the flat-four running right

Hearing it fire up makes the insanity feel possible.

This is the start of the Probably Unsafe build series where junkyard engineering meets questionable judgment.
