Off the shelf vs handmade. So in the world of ornamental metal work we can buy a lot of things that are pre made, they are made by hand, but on the other side of the globe. I don’t fault any fabricators for using these parts, but personally I want to set myself apart. The first picture is a lambs tounge that I made and shaped, on the right is the catalog version. My work might be slightly more expensive than the next fabricator, but this is why: you will be getting true hand made products by someone that pays attention to details and the subtleties that make things truly beuatiful, with visual balance and complimentary design.

They are necessary as we, and our loved ones age. Don’t wait to install railings til it’s too late. So many people have built beautiful homes and landscapes in our valley and surrounding communities in a time when they could navigate their properties with confidence, but as people age we just aren’t as sure footed. Quality railings can add to the aesthetic of your landscape while offering piece of mind, and the freedom to confidently enjoy the beauty you’ve nurtured. The backstory post:

Before Ford Cook Design became my full time focus in January 2024 I previously was the lead fabricator and project/shop manager at Steel Geisha for the better part of 15 years before the owners decided to retire. Moving forward I will still be doing much of the same work that I did previously, delivering some of the highest quality craftsmanship in the area, bringing my clients unique and custom products for their homes and businesses. Connecting with people is my true passion, I want to bring my clients the experience of having having custom pieces they feel a connection to, that they can feel pride in, knowing they were constructed by a true local craftsperson.

On this page you will see lots of examples of work both current and from my past, you will see my story through my work. I don’t want to just show the polished finish results, but I want you to understand the full story, my journey as a maker.
