Employees from Huber Engineered Woods’ (HEW) mill in Shuqualak, MS, HR Manager Hunter Winborne and Enviromental Manager Jonah Watson, HEW Communications Specialist Natasha J Lindsey and Huber VP of Communications & Community Relations Lea (Chambers) Volpe recently celebrated a $170,000 investment supporting hands-on STEM education and career-connected learning for more than 1,400 students across Noxubee and Kemper counties. In partnership with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) CEO David L. Dimmett, and PLTW Sr. Director of Advancement Amanda Gentry, funding will expand PLTW programs in local schools, helping to build a pipeline for future engineers, scientists and skilled workers in the region.

While the investment was officially celebrated on October 9, the PLTW programs funded by HEW have already made a measurable impact, introducing approximately 1,000 elementary, middle and high school students to project-based STEM curriculum thus far. Additionally, twelve teachers have completed PLTW’s intensive two-week training program to prepare for classroom implementation, expanding learning opportunities for students at every level.

A major focus of PLTW’s curriculum, in partnership with HEW, is not only introducing technical skills but also equipping students with essential life skills such as collaboration, communication and teamwork. These skills are critical for both academic and professional success.

The investment also aligns with Huber’s broader efforts to strengthen local communities surrounding its new HEW mill in Shuqualak, which represents a significant economic development project in the region.

On September 3rd, employees at the Huber Engineered Woods (HEW) Shuqualak Mill participated in an Adopt a Highway event. Len Coleman, the Wood Procurement Manager, initiated the idea of Adopt-a-Highway because he wanted to do something for his community and the road leading up to the mill.

“I’m born and raised in Noxubee County, MS. Littering and trash have been a huge concern of mine. Seeing the amount of trash present near the mill and scattered along the highway has been upsetting. I have never been involved in the Adopt-a-Highway program, but I was aware it existed. I recently started picking up trash along the county road I live on,” says Len.

The group of HEW employees spent 4.5 hours (including 20 minutes in the rain) and collected 82 bags of trash.

As we continue to review applications for the open positions at HEW, we have been alerted to posts sharing information about open positions with our organization. Anything posted or shared about open positions at the Shuquqlak Mill will be shared through the Huber Engineered Woods website careers page or on our page. Posts or messages shared from pages outside of the HEW Shuqualak Mill page are not valid. We also will not be hiring for any other organization besides Huber Engineered Woods.

We wanted to give everyone an update on our hiring for our new Shuqualak Mill! It's been a rainy May and June so far, which is detrimental to construction. Due to delays in construction due the weather, we are pushing our hiring out an additional month for several of our roles. It is still our goal to do a majority of hiring this year, so please be patient with us as we work to get everyone hired in a timely fashion to ensure proper time for training and getting integrated into the Huber Culture!
