Paint Roller Nap Size Cheat Sheet!
Not sure which nap to grab? Here’s the quick guide:
• 1/4" (6mm) – Super smooth surfaces
Doors, trim, cabinets, metal & new drywall. Perfect for high-gloss, semi-gloss & enamels. Leaves the smoothest finish with almost zero texture.
• 3/8" (10mm) – Everyday walls
Most interior walls & ceilings with light texture. The all-around champ for latex, flat, eggshell & satin paints.
• 1/2" (12mm) – Light-to-medium texture
Orange peel, knockdown, patched walls or ceilings. Holds more paint and covers better on slightly rough surfaces.
• 1¼" (32mm) – Rough & heavy texture
Brick, concrete block, heavy stucco & masonry. Deep nap pushes paint into every crack and groove.
