PROTEST ANOTHER ATTACK ON IRAN. Tuesday, October 27, 4 PM in Providence.
Stand with the RI Anti-War Committee to demand that the U.S. end its war on Iran. Stop the genocidal blockade of Cuba. Let Cuba live. Call for a halt to U.S. aid to Israel and instead, provide sufficient humanitarian aid for the Palestinians. Stop all U.S. military incursions around the world. We meet every Tuesday and Friday at 4 PM at the intersection of Francis and Gaspee Streets across from the Providence Place Mall. Bring friends, signs and banners. Share our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1353429870194027/1353429900194024.
Help spread the word.
War and Financial Peril Ahead? Trump seems to have made up his mind to attack Iran after the elections. At least, he is talking like it. When Israel and the U.S. attacked Iran in February, the rise in oil prices and reduced supply caused widespread harm throughout the world. Many nations dependent on imported oil still haven’t recovered. Add in the potential harm that A.I. might cause to the economy and we have reason to worry about what’s coming. The incompetents in Washington don’t offer much to hope for.
The strength in the American stock market is heavily supported by the investments in the tech sector. The IMF reported recently that the rapid growth in borrowing to support A.I. investment could imperil the world economy if there was ever a stall in A.I. development. Investment in the tech industry is now historically greater than in any other technological innovation we have witnessed. Greater than the build out of electrification, the railroads and highways. The greed of the billionaires blinds them to the consequences that may cause great suffering. Over the long run, the success of A.I. could lead to job losses and lower wages. The result would be defaults on mortgages, loans and other forms of debt. A financial crisis is not out of the realm of possibility.
We need political leaders to think and act on what will benefit the vast majority of people. Things like education, health care and affordability. Justice for oppressed people should be a priority as well.
