Manure spreader repairs aren’t the most glamorous jobs. They’re rusty, slippery, unfriendly to the human body, and they rarely break when they’re empty. I probably climbed in and out of this one a dozen times fitting up that auger flight replacement. That said, every time I weld on one I can’t help but think “Man, I’m glad this isn’t a rendering truck!”.

A horse trailer repair from a couple weeks ago. The bumper, center support, and door frames were shot and none of the rear wiring was functional. All freshened up and ready to haul horses for another couple decades.

PSA: these Scotchlock wiring connectors are a short term fix and a long term headache.

We finally had a run of dry weather last week to get that privacy fence stained. Got that wrapped up and my oldest girl, father in law, nephew and I headed straight for Milwaukee for a salmon trip. June 10th marked 1 year of being fully self-employed. There have been a lot of bumps in the road so far, a lot of time away from home spring and fall doing outage work, and a lot of late nights that run into the next day building fence and fabricating. That said, I have never felt so much support from friends and family and I have made memories that would have undoubtedly been scratched by the inflexibility of a “9-5” career machining in local job shops. Thank you to everyone that has had a part in helping me along the way!

I got a phone call last week. “I need a solution to a problem. Or a problem to a solution. I don’t know.” 😂 That’s great because I do both. This tine weeder wipes out weeds but also the tractor tracks, making it difficult to know if your driving on planted crop or in the row if you come back over for a second pass. We tossed around some ideas and landed on a wheel that would run behind the tines and remake a track, restoring a visual marker. “Oh, and I need to get this in the field as soon as possible to beat the rain coming”. This was Friday at 7:30pm. I dug around my collection of scrap and found the wheel and riser, and two used but good wheel bearings from Hannah’s car 👌🏽. Drove over a pulled some measurements off the tine weeder and started in on it. I didn’t take time to paint and there were some small finishing touches I’ll come back and finish up when things slow down some for myself and the customer. Machine was out of the yard and in action Saturday.

Just wrapped up this custom skid steer scarifier attachment! Excited to see how it performs on horse arena compaction, it sure works wonders on an icy gravel driveway! Very robust with 1/2” steel frame and quick attach plate, 1” teeth, fully welded. This 8’ unit is sold but we are currently taking orders with a short lead time, built the way you want!

It’s been a busy few weeks with fab work in the shop and another nice chain link job over by Winona! Glad to have a little lull to get the kids out fishing before fall work makes things hectic all over again. Hope everyone is enjoying these dog days of summer!
