This chapter is a student run organization that consists of around 60+ members. Most of these members are meteorology majors; however, our membership is open to any interested matriculated PSU student. Our club provides motivated students with useful extracurricular experience that is relevant to meteorology. Plymouth is home to a variety of facilities and equipment, which add to the experience of
being a member of our club. These include but aren’t limited to; a rooftop weather observation station, electronic map wall, weather technology lab, observational equipment, broadcast studio, and various other computer resources. The PSU AMS offers numerous opportunities for its members such as; a chance for members to see what the real-world workplace is like within meteorology, a chance for members to share their common passion for the weather, and further exposure to the various fields which involve meteorology. One of our annual club activities is to attend the Northeastern Storm Conference, and we are proud to be able to support over forty student registrations. We also participate in an annual hike up Mount Washington in the fall semester. This trip provides an opportunity for our members to tour the summit observatory. In the past, there have been several trips to local National Weather Service offices in New England, the latest trip having been to Gray Maine last spring. These trips allow our members to get a tour and a chance to network with the employees. Additionally, as of this year we have started a new mentorship program. It facilitates students of different years to connect and support one another both educationally and socially. Check out Plymouth’s weather center page at http://vortex.plymouth.edu.
