Our new episode is out!

The commercial door world runs on different expectations than self-storage, so when we launched our commercial line, we gave it a look of its own.

It still lives under the SteelBlue name, but you will see the difference across our site, our marketing materials, and our social feeds.

We sat down with our creative director, Chloe Grote, to walk through how the whole identity came together.

Building a brand looks simple from the outside, a logo, a color, a name.

The reality is months of iterations and decisions made by people across the company.

We went through all of it recently while creating a dedicated brand for our commercial door line. That side of the business serves a different audience than self-storage, and it deserved an identity built for it.

Storage demand is firming up. National occupancy rose 3.6 points year over year, with REIT facilities at 87.7 percent, according to TractIQ.

For the benefit of operators, a door in daily use holds up better than one left to sit. Regular cycling keeps the springs loose and working.

The problematic doors are the ones on units nobody has opened in months, where prolonged tension on the springs eventually leads to failure and replacement.

A few minutes of upkeep on those idle units saves a service call later.

Automation runs a lot of manufacturing floors now with barely a person in sight.

Our floor in Georgetown, Kentucky works differently. Machinery does part of the job, but people do the rest.
