Had a nice time at the 1750 Smithy today entertaining several groups of 4th grade student visitors who stopped by the forge for a field trip. We talked about why Blacksmithing was important in the past and why it is still important today. Showed them a quick demo on making a decorative heart which starts as not much but comes to life on the anvil horn. ❤️

First picture I found of Hopewell Furnace from their website that shows some of the damage from the windstorm on March 16th. A massive sycamore tree fell a short distance from the Smithy. Had it been another 20 feet over, the building would have been ruined. Other buildings and structures were damaged and many of the trails have been compromised. Fortunately all the livestock are safe and sound. There is much for the staff and volunteers to do to put the park back in order for everyone's enjoyment.
