Repair vs Remanufactured… what’s the difference?
At Orlando Starters & Alternators, we offer both remanufacturing and repair services. While both options restore your alternator to proper working condition, they are very different processes.
Remanufactured Unit (Complete Rebuild)
A remanufactured unit undergoes a complete disassembly and rebuilding process. Every component is removed, the housing is thoroughly cleaned and refinished, and all worn or out-of-spec parts are replaced with components that meet our quality standards. The unit is then carefully reassembled, bench tested to verify proper performance, and inspected before it leaves our shop.
Because the unit goes through this comprehensive process, we’re able to offer a 1-year - 6-months warranty with confidence.
Repair
A repair is a more targeted service. Rather than completely disassembling and remanufacturing the unit, we diagnose the problem and replace only the faulty or failed component(s). The unit is then bench tested to confirm it is operating correctly before being returned to the customer.
Since a repair does not involve the complete teardown, cleaning, refinishing, and replacement of all wear components, it requires significantly less labor and time, typically 30 to 45 minutes. This is why repairs cost less than a remanufactured unit. Repairs include a 90-day warranty because only the failed components have been replaced, not the entire unit
