🔸What drove you to choose a career path in the construction sector?
As a young adult, I didn’t specifically seek a career in the construction field. I feel like construction opened a door that I chose to walk through, and I later realized it was always my destination. It appealed to me because of the ever-changing environment, coupled with the pride and satisfaction that comes with completing a project.

🔸What guidance would you offer to women considering a career in the construction field?
We were all apprehensive when we started, do it anyway. You don’t have to know everything; it’s okay to ask questions. That’s how you learn and grow. Don’t shrink yourself to fit someone else’s mold, the world needs to hear what you have to say. Have passion for your work; enthusiasm is contagious.

🔸Who is the woman that inspires you and why?
My grandmother, Pearl. Born in 1900, she was a fierce, independent, authentic, and unapologetic farm girl who became a surgical nurse. Although her main career was not in construction, she never shied away from a challenge and led by example. I strive every day to make her proud.

Guided by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), this nationwide initiative highlights the impact, accomplishments, and growing presence of women throughout the construction field. This year’s theme, “Level Up. Build Strong.”, emphasizes elevating careers, empowering communities, and shaping a stronger future for the industry.

Our 711 Materials Ready-Mix crews alongside Drill Tech Drilling & Shoring, Inc. begin pouring concrete for the Canyon Tunnel Project in Oakdale, CA. This marks the beginning of a three-year project that will significantly enhance water security in the region.

The Canyon Tunnel Project is a joint venture between (SSJID) South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) and Oakdale Irrigation District (OID), designed to create a 12,000-foot bypass tunnel for the Joint Supply Canal. This new tunnel will circumvent a hazardous section of the canal where unstable rock slopes have caused ongoing maintenance concerns.

Once completed, the tunnel will provide a safer working environment for district personnel and ensure reliable water delivery to multiple communities.
