Happy Juneteenth!

Thank you to so many of my ancestors for your resilience and strength, which helped pave the path we are able to walk today.

My great-grandfather was a freed slave. I am only 4 generations removed from that nightmarish era. My grandfather had to quit school in the 7th grade to work and help support his mother and siblings, after they killed his father because of the color of his skin. Life-changing events like that would forever hinder the potential growth of a family, for generations to come. unimaginable tragedies and setbacks like that have been happening to black families for hundreds of years. But we always find a way.

This holiday should not exist. Human beings should never have been enslaved. But here we are today, able to celebrate freedom, together as a nation. 🙏🏽
