Pairing louvers with a thermostat-controlled exhaust fan at opposite ends draws cool air in and pushes hot air out, actively regulating temperature. The fan opens the louver blades when running and lets them close when off, so the enclosure stays sealed and efficient.

Exhaust fans run on an electric motor, so a reliable power source has to be planned before installation.

Vaults carry a second problem: they're an OSHA-defined confined space. Every annual test requires a certified tester to enter that space. BLS Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries data recorded 1,030 confined-space fatalities between 2011 and 2018. And RPZ assemblies cannot be installed below grade at all, which eliminates vaults for the most common commercial assembly type.

Indoor installation shifts the risk from worker safety to flood liability. An RPZ malfunction can discharge more than 375 gallons per minute. Sizing drains to solve this isn't practical because larger drains are too costly to install.

Above-ground installation in an ASSE 1060-certified enclosure eliminates both vault and indoor risk.

Maintenance personnel access the equipment without confined-space protocols.

โ€ข A properly designed enclosure protects the assembly from freeze damage, vandalism and weather for decades.
