Tire Veneer Information -
Intro - Uses – Rolls – Tiles – Options – Quick Ship - Shipping - Terms
Tire Veneer is a popular resilient floor covering material. It has many uses and design advantages and it is available in rolls or tiles. Tire Veneer comes from the automotive industry. It is based on what are called buffings, which are small granules of rubber that are removed from the old tire tread of a tire that is going to be retreaded; a form of tire reuse and recycling.
Rubber tires are made from SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber). Polyurethane is used to bind the rubber granules together into a strong but slightly porous material. The most basic and least expensive color of Tire Veneer is black.
To add some visual interest to the black Tire Veneer, colored EPDM rubber is added to the black tire buffings before the polyurethane is added. The EPDM rubber is not recycled, which means that only the solid black Tire Veneer contains 100% post-consumer recycled rubber. EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. For colors, our standard is 20% EPDM so the material still contains a significantly high percentage of post-consumer content.
Once the dry rubber granules are blended with the polyurethane binder, the mixture is introduced to a mold, to which heat and pressure are applied. The result is 2 basic shapes, blocks or cylinders. Blocks are about a square yard, just under a square meter at 914 mm in size and several inches thick. Sheets are sliced off the top of the block in various thicknesses. This is a slower low-volume process but results in a perfectly flat sheet.
The most cost-effective method of production is the cylinder. A cylinder is about 4 feet (1.2m) in diameter and 4 feet (1.2m) long. It is positioned against a peeling knife and either the entire cylinder is peeled or just what is ordered of a specific thickness. A full cylinder peeled into 1/4" (6 mm) thick sheet will yield 385 linear feet (117 meters) of Tire Veneer.
Tire Veneer is made in the USA from domestically sourced raw materials. It is available in 13 standard colors with optional EPDM percentage variations and additives such as granulated cork. Tire Veneer comes in 4-foot wide rolls and square cut and interlocking tiles.
Tire Veneer non-standard colors require full cylinder or block quantities. Tire Veneer may be color batch sensitive.
Tire Veneer Uses

Use Tire Veneer for heavily traveled environments. Locker rooms, weight rooms, gym floors, laboratories, workshops, garage floors, entranceways, commercial kitchens, walk-in coolers, factory and plant floors, multipurpose floors and temporary gym floor covering are ideal candidates for this material. This resilient material when installed on a concrete floor reduces fatigue and noise. The rubber sheet material is versatile and works for many other applications, such as consumer products, vibration dampeners, and furniture surfaces. Tire Veneer has many exterior applications such as sports & recreation, animal housing, truck beds and w**d control.

Tire Veneer Tiles -
Tire Veneer Tiles are cut from a block. The feedstock is black SBR rubber from tires and colored EPDM rubber bound together with polyurethane. Because these tiles are cut from a block, they lay perfectly flat. The coverage of a 36″ x 36″ square cut tile is 9 square feet. The coverage of an interlocking rubber tile is 8.4 square feet because half of the tabs and slots are not counted. They are available in thicknesses of 6.4mm, 8mm & 9.5mm. Tire Veneer tiles, when glued down, or loose-laid for the interlocking, will provide a durable and economical floor covering, that wears well and will look good for years.
