It's been quite a while since I've posted, but that's because I've been hard at work manufacturing the first American-made Secret 20 kit for a customer in North Carolina. Here are a few pics of some of the 24 precision CNC-cut plywood sheets.

And now for something a little different - I’m building lumber racks to properly store all of this wonderful Okoume plywood and Australian hardwood that I have for the boat kits that I build.

Scruffie Marine Shimmy 12 Build update: I know things don't look much different from my most recent posts, but I really have made progress! I finished epoxy filleting and sanding the stem, stern, decks, and cockpit. It's now time for two coats of primer/undercoat to the interior before attaching the Queensland Red Cedar trim.

Scruffie Marine Shimmy 12 Build update: I began fairing the hull bottom, but decided to flip the boat instead and work on the interior for a while. Lots of epoxy filleting and sanding to do followed by two coats of primer/undercoat (Interlux Pre-Kote Plus) before attaching the trim (Queensland Red Cedar).

Scruffie Marine Shimmy 12 Build update: It's been a while! The semester building with K-State students drew to a close and now I'm on my own to finish the build and get her out on the water by May. I epoxy coated the fore, side, and aft tanks, installed the side and bottom panels, rounded and taped the chines, and epoxy coated the bottom panels. The bare hull is now complete!

Scruffie Marine Shimmy 12 Build update: K-State students attached the stern transom to the sternpost and the chine stringers from stem to stern.

Next, they'll epoxy coat the fore, side, and aft tanks before installing the side and bottom panels.

Scruffie Marine Shimmy 12 Build update: The K-State students have been busy this past month!

They attached the stempost and sternpost to the keel, plumbed and leveled the keel assembly to use as a backbone, assembled and epoxy filleted the frames and bulkheads to the keel, and assembled and epoxy filleted the decks to the frames and bulkheads.

Next, they'll attach the stern transom to the sternpost and the chine stringers from stem to stern. Then they'll attach side and bottom panels made out of cheap plywood to test fit before cnc-cutting and installing the final panels made out of Okoume marine plywood.
