Blair Street Gardens

Blair Street Gardens Blair Street Gardens is a non-profit community organization that has maintained two gardens in downtown Madison since 1985.

The Gateway Garden is located on Williamson Street at the intersection with John Nolen Drive and Blair Street. It's across from Machinery Row Bikes. The second garden is called Wilson Green and is up E. Wilson Street toward the capitol, across from Come Back Inn. The gardens are maintained by volunteers - hopefully you can join us!

Join us THIS SATURDAY, June 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Gateway Garden on W***y Street across from Machinery Row to mulch, plant and w**d the garden. Volunteers like you are what help our gardens thrive. We have tools and gloves, though feel free to bring your own. Come for as long as you like - even 30 minutes is a help. If time permits, we'll move up E. Wilson Street to our 2nd garden - Wilson Green - across from Come Back Inn. Hope to see you!

An early reminder that we'll be gardening in 2+ weeks on Saturday, June 6 from 9 am to noon. Not sure which garden we'll be starting at but we'll let you know in a later post. New volunteers always welcome! We'll w**d, pick up litter, plant and mulch.

Thanks to the six volunteers who gardened yesterday, Saturday, May 2 at The Gateway Garden. We pruned evergreens, w**ded, picked up litter, planted, and made cages to protect the new plants from marauding rabbits. Our next event is Saturday, June 6 from 9 am to noon at Wilson Green on E. Wilson Street. Put the first Saturday morning of every month on your calendar and come join us. Without volunteers, there'd be no Blair Street Gardens.

Join us on Saturday, May 2 from 9 to noon, to garden at The Gateway Garden, across from Machinery Row. We'll be pruning evergreens, cutting back perennials, w**ding and picking up litter. Come for as long as you can - even 30 minutes helps. We have tools and gloves, though feel free to bring your own. If time permits, we will move to Wilson Green, across from Come Back Inn. We garden the first Saturday of every month, so put us on your calendar! Volunteers maintain both gardens so we need your help to keep the gardens green and growing. If you're enjoying the daffodils blooming at The Gateway Garden, remember it was volunteers who planted them.

Shout-out to Tree House Arbor Science for chipping and hauling our brush away after our event on April 4. There was a lot - way more than could fit in someone's car. Tree House Arbor Science is a full service tree company that loves to help Madison groups like BSG keep making our community beautiful. Tree House wants to help with your trees too! With tree climbers on staff (one of whom is a volunteer with BSG!), Tree House can do your tree trimming, removals, cabling, tree healthcare and more. Ask your trees about them! Thanks to the 11 volunteers who on Saturday April 4 mulched, picked up litter and pruned evergreens at Wilson Green and then moved to The Gateway Garden for litter pick-up and cutting back prairie dropseed grasses. We got a lot done! Too early for w**ds to be up but they're lurking beneath the soil and will be up by our next event - Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m. Meet at The Gateway Garden, across from Machinery Row. Thanks all!

If it's raining Saturday, the 4th, we'll reschedule for the 5th. But for now, we're still on for this Saturday morning the 4th. (We know the 5th is Easter so if we reschedule, we understand if you can't make it. We'll see you next time!)

It's still winter but the days are getting longer so Spring is coming! And that means another gardening season at Blair Street Gardens. Please join us at our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, March 25 from 6 to 8 pm at 807 Jenifer Street, across from B.B. Clarke Beach. We'll be setting the budget and establishing plans for 2026. Possible plans mean adding more benches to Wilson Green and tables, chairs and umbrellas to The Gateway Garden. If you're planning on attending, please email [email protected]
