The tradition of the Honorary Mayor's Race of Brandon began in 1959 with Nat Storms winning the election with his catchy slogan, "A pork chop in every pan". Through the years, many have accepted the honor of being Mayor of Brandon, by feverishly working from June 1 - July 3 to raise money for the charities they have chosen. This year I'm running to raise funds and awareness for the following chari
ties. Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association-
Center Place, established in 1976, has made culture easily accessible through art exhibits, classes and performances. Many children in our community have grown up attending plays and classes at Center Place through the years. Read more about Center Place at www.centerplacebrandon.org
Brandon Foundation Angel Program-
The Angel Program was designed to help families in The Greater Brandon Community who have suffered a catastrophic event such as terminal illness, fire, flood, etc. Since money is not the only thing needed during these times, the Angel Program pairs up with business partners in the community to provide their services to meet the needs of the families in crisis. To learn more about the Angel Program go to www.brandonfoundation.info
Bloomingdale High School Academic Foundation- This foundation was created to address the needs of teachers and their classrooms to provide the highest level of academic instruction. Donations to this foundation go directly back into the classrooms for areas not always covered by county dollars, such as technology, specialized equipment, supplemental books.. just to name a few. The charities I am raising money for are very close to my heart and drive the sense of community that made us all fall in love with Brandon. It's because of organizations like these that our community has grown and thrived through the years. This is why I love Brandon, and why I will continue building a brighter Brandon.
