So we have been doing some product testing on the new Gen 2 M177 exhaust manifold, and honestly, the numbers are looking really good. Mind you this is the first unit test and I can shape this thing more to increase the top end. The design is radically different from the other options out there, but I can’t show it quite yet.
If you look at the comparison chart on the next slide, you can see exactly what is going on. Usually, when you get a manifold that flows this well, you expect to sacrifice some low-end response. But the spool on this thing is actually way better, and then it just hangs onto those gains all the way through without falling off. Peak gains are touching 70 whp and 70wheel torque. I believe the this turbine housing is starting to become a restriction at this power level as we see big gains through most of the power band, but up top where the engine produces the most power/exhaust flow the housing itself becomes a restriction. I believe on a stock turbo stock tune vehicle we would see considerably more top end gains as the manifold can do its work without being restricted by the turbo housing. That’s what we will test that next.
For anyone running an M177 right now, what is your current setup, and do you think a manifold like this is the missing piece for your build? Drop your thoughts below, let’s talk about it.
