It has been a crazy month and in the spirit of playing catch up, unfortunately updates have been neglected. Although this is a little out of order, it will all be caught up. Without further a due, we want to give Nathanial Eversman a huge shout out for bringing us his 95 F350! The diagnosis was a bad head gasket, as the cooling system consistently burbled and blew all the coolant out and overheated on the way and had to be flat towed to us. From there, the work began. Being that it blew the head gasket, head removal was necessary. At that point, we opted with the customer’s consent to add on some upgrade parts to keep her reliable and performing well. Hand ported/gasket matched heads were first up, along with head studs from ARP. A Fel-Pro gasket set was in order to keep it all sealed up nicely. Being that the truck also had a slight coolant leak in the timing cover, as well as 259k on the odometer, a Cloyes 9 way adjustable street billet timing set was installed, utilizing the 4 degrees of advanced valve timing to give it some added torquiness. All gasket surfaces were cleaned and prepped for the timing cover, which cracked during front seal install, so an aftermarket Dorman Products timing cover was installed as replacement. A ported intake manifold, and tune-up was performed. Motorcraft spark plugs, Ford Racing plug wires, and a Holley MSD cap and rotor were added to keep the spark alive. An oil change utilizing Royal Purple oil and a Motorcraft filter. Exhaust manifolds were also ported as this truck has the EFI smog engine which significantly chokes down the exhaust flow. With a smog delete, and ported manifolds, she exhales increasingly well. Cooling system flush, and test drive and she was running better than she would have off the showroom floor! Exhaust note in comments.
