This is the 2nd in a series of articles about UL certification (using listed components) and why that is particularly relevant in off-grid projects. Normal markets do not have to deal with the confusion that we do.

UL listing is required by code for almost anything in an off grid project. But more important things that are listed will be safer and more reliable.

I've had some customers who profess they want everything they need to be made in America. That probably is not possible. The way I think about it is there are a few scenarios you could have, and your choice is a balance of quality, cost, certifications, and speed.
1) US company made and assembled in US, but likely with overseas made sub-components.
2) US company made and assembled overseas
3) Overseas company made and assembled overseas, but have partnered with US distributor
4) Overseas company made/assembled overseas that you purchase directly.

They have their plusses and minuses.
